Auto Start-Stop Button Not Working? Here’s What to Check First

If you’ve pressed the auto start-stop button and nothing happens, you’re not alone. Whether you’re in Dubai traffic or parking in Sharjah heat, your start-stop system may stop responding. Here’s how to troubleshoot it quickly.

1. Battery Voltage Below 12.4V

Start-stop won’t engage if your battery is weak. Use a voltmeter or OBD2 scanner to confirm the charge. If your battery is older than 2 years, it might be time for a replacement.

2. A/C or Heating Priority

If your climate control system demands high power (especially in UAE summers), the start-stop system will automatically stay off to keep you cool.

3. Open Hood or Door

An open hood, door, or unbuckled seatbelt can deactivate the system by default. Make sure everything is securely closed and latched.

4. Faulty Button or Fuse

  • Check the fuse box for a blown fuse related to start-stop
  • Try holding the button longer than 3 seconds
  • Have the button inspected by a technician if it feels loose

5. Engine Not at Optimal Temperature

If the engine is too cold (early morning starts), the system might delay activation until it warms up to avoid stalling or emissions spikes.
